Goals For Term 3

Walt: Set Smart goals.
Task: Explain to the audience what you 'NEW SMART GOALS ARE' to make my post successful I need to,
My writing goal is to... use similes, metaphors and emotive language to create mental images.

The reason I have chosen to focus on this goal is... because in my term 2 report my teacher asked me to focus on this in term 3 and when I read my writing back I find that it is sometimes quite boring.

I will accomplish my goal by... reading back my story more often and asking a teacher of another person to give me advice when I am stuck. Another thing I think I need to do is find out more about metaphors and emotive langue before I get started with my next piece of writing.

The people who can help me are... my teachers my parents but most of all me!

I want to have this goal finished by... Well I want to work on emotive langue in the holidays so that when I come back to school I will have that goal AMAZING and then in the first two weeks of school I want to work on metaphors and then in the third week put them in my story!

My reading goal is to... 'play with ideas' by using small group discussions to draw out her opinions and build on them.

The reason I have chosen to focus on this goal is... This will help me develop inferencing and thinking skills to explore more than one possible answers and make text-words connections.

I will accomplish my goal by...  listing to other peoples conversations and what they talk about and then  say what I want to say and ask them questions about the story and also write down ideas so that I can put them in order.

The people who can help me are... My group of reading buddies my teacher and my parents and anyone else who no's how to have a good discussion around books!

I want to have this goal finished by... The end of the term, it is a goal that I can work towards and get finished by term three.

My maths goal is to... use the place value and double & half strategies in the same want as compensating.

The reason I have chosen to focus on this goal is... because it will help me figure out a question like 19x100 faster.

I will accomplish my goal by... learning my 8 and six times tables so that I can figure  out the answer to any questions like that, 19x800 faster.

The people who can help me are...  My teacher my parents and my group buddies... But mostly me!

I want to have this goal finished by... The end of the term, it is a goal that I can work towards and get finished by term three.

Bookepida Task

Walt: discuss what we have read.

Task: To create something that tells the reader what we have been discussing with our reading buddies.

Description:
In bookepida we have to read a story that our reading teacher has given us to read and then we have to discuses what we have read with our reading partners. We have to usually discuss what we do understand what we don't understand and the meaning of juicy words.

Here is Amy, Bella and my discussion.

What does Inuit mean?    We researched it and it was a type of person who lives in Antarctica.

What did we understand? We learnt that Some people adapt to Cretan heat.

What did we not understand?  How do people get more heat and energy than others?

For a little explanation on what brought this question up. I love warm weather, 85-93f (29.44-33.88c). I get cold really easy, and when I do its difficult to warm back up. However, I have a friend who prefers winter-typed weather. When it gets down in the 50's and even the 40's, he's still wearing tank tops and shorts. If its 70 degrees, he's sweating and I'm shivering. If you sit next to him, you can really feel the heat radiate off of him, and one time when it was 15f (-9.44c) out, he came in without a jacket on, and he touched my arm and it was really warm.
So, after that. What causes someone to feel hotter, or to generate or put out more heat? How can one person shiver at 70 and the next person sweat at the same temperature? Also, not sure if this information is relevant but, we are both males in our mid twenties.

Book clip task No 3

Question: Ask your family about your own birth story and compare it to Auggies.

W.A.L.T to use a various sources of information to better understand the authors message. SC: Use prior knowledge and the text to form logical opinions.

My  mum went into labour at about 2 o clock in the after noon. She din't eat much and sat down on the couch and watched TV. After she had watched TV for a while she went to bed. Then in the morning she rang the midwife who asked have you been eating mum said no and the midwife told her to have some toast and orange juice. Mum ate and drunk that and then went to bed. She slept for about 3 to 4 hours.

When she woke up mum had a really sore back and a really really sore tummy. My dad took her to the hospital were there midwife was waiting for her. She put mum in a room were she got some painrelif and also the midwife cleared her and said that she was having me.

After a while the doctors asked mum if she wanted to have a bath. She had a bath but while she was in it she got another strong pain. The midwife asked if she wanted pain relief but she said no. After she hopped out the midwife and dad were whispering about pain relief.

When mum was having me she couldn't feel her body from her tummy down. Also my head was in a funny position so it was difulcut to get me out! So the mid wife went to get a special doctor who bring into the room a special sucker thing that got me out easily. After I was born mum got some stuff to take away here numbing pain. Mum had a shower after her pain was gone.

Then the midwife left but the doctor still stayed with her. In the middle of the night mum and dad were take to another hospital. They had to drive about another 15 to 20 minutes to get to the other place.

When they got to the other hospital another doctor was waiting for her. Even though mum and dad had wrapped me in a woolen coat I was still cold so I got warmed up by a special machine. After that mum and dad went to the bed with me and the rest is history!

Here is the Comparison.
Auggies midwife farted lots and smelt like farts and my midwife smelled like perfume mum said!

Auggie came out funny looking and I din't!

Wonder task No 2

Task 2: After reading wonder what questions do you have for RJ Palacio.

W.A.L.T to use a various sources of information to better understand the authors message. SC: Use prior knowledge and text to form logical opinions.

Question 1 that I asked. What made you write this book? An experience or something that happened to you?

Question 2 that I asked. What is your favourite part in the story that you wrote and why was it your favourite part?

Question 3 that I asked. How many hours did you spend writing the book. How many days did it take you to finished your published piece?

Question 4 that I asked. My  main goal for reading this term is to compare different books. Is there any books that you read before you wrote wonder and did they inspire you to be the best writer you could be?

Hannah!

Wonder task!

Here is my wonder task that I am going to show you, If you don't now what I mean I am talking about the book called wonder. The walt for this activity is,

W.A.L.T Consider alternative viewpoints to better understand the authors message. SC: Compare different characters points of view from different opinions .

Question: Do you agree with Mr Tushmans decision not to suspend Julian? Why / why not?

What I think: I don't agree because he did a naughty thing and at our school if you do something really naughty you go onto reflection. I am glad though that he did get a telling off though!

Bookpedia reading goal term 1

My goal is to: Compare and contrast a variety of different texts.

The reason I have decided to focus this goal is: Because Stephen set this goal for me and I think that I should work on it because I don't think I have mastered it! As a reader comparing an contrasting is important because it makes you understand the book better.

I will accomplish my goal by: Comparing books together that are close to the same book but having a different piece of information than the other.

I will know I have achieved my goal when I can discuss the similarities and differences between ideas in a book.
